My Retirement.

By Alvie N Leeper

Retirement that glorious time of no more work and just do as you please. Yah unhah!!! The first thing I had to do was reprogram my body and mind to the fact I didn't have to get up and go.It is weird at first but time alters every thing. I started working in 1936 and didn't stop until 1992.Quite a long habit to break.
I have enjoyed my time to myself a great deal but there are many facets that I can not control. When I retired in 1992 I had a surplus cushion of about $650.00 per month and living was easy. In 1993 my wife retired and joined me at home all the time. I must say it was a very smooth transition. She also had a nice cushion of income. As the years advanced we were dealt a dose of reality. Due to the increase in prices, taxes and just unforseen expenses, the Dollar losing half of it's value our wonderful future took on a less rosey look.
We thought we had provided rather well for ourselfs but the worlds finances and time changes all things. We are now in the rat race again to try to add to our pensions.
So what choices does an 83 year old have to earn money? Not very many. Like so many I went to the computer and tried to make money on the internet. I know it can be done but the how still eludes me.
If you are entering the time of retirement or are still preparing for it ,look at your nest egg and triple it. In my time doubling would have been sufficient but today that is not enough.
Remember one thing! When you retire you are at the mercy of every one out in the world and they will not hesitate to take advantage of you.

Thank you for sharing these words of wisdom, Alvie.
We senior citizens see increases in the cost of living and the cost of declining health.
We had to go back to work AND start an internet business.
Keep up the good work.
Best to you.
Frederick
