Vice ?/ what's it?
By Alvie N Leeper
Vice or is it vise. Both can hold you in a strangling grip. Spoken ,it is not possible to discern which is meant. It is when the word is surrounded or supported by other words that it's meaning becomes clear. When does a bad habit become a vice ,or are all vices bad? This seems as though we are entrapped in the conundrum of Catch 22. In Jim Odoms intel "I don't have talent", the intels and reply's each came from the personal and private understanding of the word "Talent" and experience of the individual writing the entry. Is a vice an overwhelming desire to do something, an absolute need to have something or a never ending itch or yearning to be something? If you ask someone what vice is ,you will usually get an explanation that a vice is not good, is harmfull,demi-grating,self distructing, robs you of your health, sanity, personality and honesty, to name a few. Could you not say a workaholic has a vice because it disrupts the person's life and that of those around him. Where is the dividing line ? How do we make a decision as to the positive or negative force of a given action. .... Because vice is an action. I have always prided myself on not having any vices but how can I be sure? I have painted nudes in classes which I taught and paintings for sale. Is this a vice or just a smutty quirk in my psyche? I am sure that some people would most assuredly answer that I have a vice. Who is to decide? I leave that up to you. Alvien |

I've already decided, Alvie. There doesn't appear to be a Hallo around your head, so somewhere there's a vice. Keep up the good work. Best wishes. Frederick
